BEDFORD, NH — A person walking around Gault Road with a long gun, which turned out to be a pellet gun, on Tuesday, led to schools in town being placed in lockdown.

Around 2 p.m., police received reports about a person walking on the road with what appeared to be a long gun. Since the reports were near the Bedford School District, all of the town’s four schools were placed in a brief secure campus mode, Bedford Police Chief Daniel Douidi said.

Bedford police, Manchester police, and deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office scoured the area and found the person just before 3 p.m. The gun turned out to be a pellet gun, he said. The person cooperated with the police during the investigation, he said.
