Man Dies After Police Respond To Reported Stabbing In Manchester

A death at a downtown apartment building on Chestnut Street is being investigated. NH AG says there is no apparent danger to the public.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police and the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office are investigating the death of a man at the O’Malley apartment building at 59 Chestnut St. on Sunday.

Police were called to the building after a call to 911 at about 5 a.m. Manchester Fire and AMR ambulance responded moments later for a report of a stabbing at the building. Upon entering the location, they discovered a man inside with life threatening injuries, according the Michael Garrity of the Attorney General’s Office. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.

Manchester Fire returned to the scene to shut down one elevator, according to sources, to preserve evidence, including blood.

The building is owned and operated by the Manchester Housing Authority and is a nine-story building with 120 apartments. Many elderly and disabled residents occupy the building.

Police say although the investigation is in the early stages, there does not appear to be any threat to the general public in connection with this death.

At 10:15 a.m., three police cruisers remained at the scene, and detectives are expected to arrive to begin processing the scene throughout the day.
