Police said Everett Simpson kidnapped a woman and child at The Mall of New Hampshire, drove to Vermont and sexually assaulted the woman.

MANCHESTER, NH — A man accused of kidnapping a woman and her child at The Mall of New Hampshire Saturday was arrested in Pennsylvania Sunday, according to police. Everett Simpson, 41, of Vermont, faces a host of charges. Police said on Saturday, Simpson targeted the woman and child at random, stuffed them in his stolen vehicle and drove to White River Junction, Vermont, where he sexually assaulted the woman at a hotel.

Simpson left the hotel and the woman and child were able to call for help, police said. Simpson was later tracked to Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and arrested.

Police said Simpson escaped from a substance-abuse rehabilitation facility last week, stole a Kia Forte sedan and drove to New Hampshire to kidnap the woman and child. Simpson has had previous encounters with police, including a September incident where he stole a car and assaulted a Vermont State Police trooper.
