Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- More than 76,000 New Hampshire residents lost power during Tuesday's nor'easter. The storm brought strong wind gusts and more than 6 inches of heavy snow, weighing down branches and knocking down power lines in Bedford. Eversource's outage map reported more than 800 Bedford homes were without power as of 6 p.m. Tuesday. Robert Buxton, the director of the New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, reminded residents: “Never run a generator indoors. If you come across downed wires, stay away and call 9-1-1.” (Patch)
- Have you heard the latest Bedford coffee news? "The Dunkin’ at 206 S. River Road has temporarily closed for remodeling." If you drive into the parking lot, you will find the doors locked, but another Dunkin' is right across the street, at the Nouria gas station. Only New England has "two Dunkin’ shops across the street from one another." The Andrade Management Group owns and operates both locations. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
- Bedford will receive an unexpected windfall of $120,000. The $120,526 grant is from "the InvestNH Housing Opportunity Planning Grant Program in accordance with NH RSA 31:95-b." The town will have to wait until the next Bedford Town Council Public Meeting, scheduled for April 12, to accept the funds. (Town of Bedford)
- Almost 70 local elections were postponed due to the nor'easter that brought heavy snow to the state Tuesday. Absentee ballots were available to voters in Bedford Monday "before the heavy snow began." The New Hampshire Secretary of State's Office posted on its website that local moderators had the authority to decide whether to postpone elections in towns where a "weather warning has been issued by the National Weather Service." Elections postponed in Bedford elections have been rescheduled for March 28. See the full list of towns that rescheduled elections here: (WMUR Manchester)
