Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. Bedford wrestling athletes took 6th place in a wrestling championship with 29 high schools on Jan 28. Wrestlers from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont and Rhode Island competed in the Capital City Classic Wrestling Tournament at Concord High School this weekend. The first tournament competition was started by head coach Jim Kaufman in 1991 and it's now "one of the toughest and most efficient one-day tournaments in New England." (Bedford Patch)
  2. Do you want to run for office in Bedford? Be sure to file between Jan. 25- Feb. 3 for open positions, including three openings on the town council , a library trustee, town clerk, and three school board positions, according to a Jan. 25 report on BCTV. The Bedford Men's Club will host a BCTV forum for town council candidates on Feb. 15, 7 p.m., and Feb. 16, 7 p.m. for school board candidates. (Town Manager's Report via BCTV)
  3. Remember Opal? The sweet beagle whose family surrendered her to the shelter when she needed expensive surgery? It was Opal's turn to take part in a recent shelter sleepover at the Animal Rescue League of NH with a dedicated staff member during a snowstorm. Someone from the shelter will sleep over to care for the animals when storms make the early morning commute dangerous. This time, "it was Opal's turn" to join in the party.
