Second Inmate In Less Than A Month Dies At House Of Corrections

MANCHESTER, NH — An inmate at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections (HCDOC) died on Saturday, the second death at the facility in less than a month.

Officers and Medical Staff of the HCDOC responded to a medical emergency within the facility. Staff performed life-saving measures on Joseph King, 31, of Nashua, who was later pronounced deceased by American Medical Response staff on-site at the facility. After a preliminary review of the facts of this incident, the death is not deemed suspicious in nature, according to Hillsborough County House of Corrections.

King was booked into the facility on Dec. 2, 2023, and held on a preventative detention order issued out of the Hillsborough Superior Court-South for charges of robbery, burglary, simple assault, and violation of a protective order.

King’s emergency contact was notified. Superintendent Costanzo and the staff at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections express their condolences to Mr. King’s family.

On Jan. 12, at approximately 3:35 a.m., officers and medical staff of the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections responded to a medical emergency within the facility. HCDOC Staff performed life-saving measures. Dana Burley, 38, of Gonic, NH, was later pronounced deceased by responding American Medical Response staff.

After a preliminary review of the facts of this incident, the death is not deemed suspicious in nature, according to Hillsborough County House of Corrections.

Burley was booked into the facility on Jan. 11 and held without bail on charges of a fugitive from justice issued out of the Hillsborough Superior Court-North.
