Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- Plans changed several times since the mixed-use Market and Main development was proposed in 2016. Market and Main originally included shops, a movie theater, offices and a hotel. Then, in September 2020, 200 market-rate apartments were proposed—and rejected—by town planners. Housing is now "back on the table." An assisted-living owner wants to build a 55+ "five-story, 65-unit Independent Senior Living complex" in place of the hotel. Preliminary plans were submitted to the Bedford Planning Board "for a nonbinding review in December." The Planning Board will have to decide what happens next. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
- Eversource called in out-of-state crews in "a massive effort" to restore power to more than 53,000 residents following Tuesday's winter storm. Many of the hardest hit communities are served by Eversource work centers in Keene, Bedford and Nashua. The energy company reminds customers doing storm cleanup "to focus on safety and be aware that tree limbs weighed down by heavy, wet snow and other debris," and to "operate generators outdoors and as far away from the home and air vent as possible." (InDepthNH.org)
- A shoutout to firefighter/paramedic Mike Tierney, who is "celebrating his 5th year with the Bedford Fire Department this month." In a recent post, the Bedford Fire Department thanked Mike for his "continued dedication to the citizens of our community." Congratulations! (The Bedford Fire Department via Facebook)
