Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Thick plumes of smoke billowed from a home at 17 Tumble Road Thursday. Emergency crews arrived at about 3:30 p.m. to find the right side of the home engulfed in flames. Deputy Chief Keith Folsom "pulled all firefighters out of the building" due to the intensity of the fire. Thankfully, the homeowner said no one was home, but firefighters found a cat in the house "that could not be revived." Another cat was missing but may have been outside. After an initial investigation, the fire department said the cause "appeared to be accidental." (Patch)
- Residents voted on nine amendments under Article 4 on Tuesday. All of the amendments, including zoning changes, passed with a "yes" vote, except for the last amendment. Voters did not approve a petition to prohibit chickens, geese, coops and structures on "lots smaller than 5 acres." Voters also approved a "1.04 MW solar array" on capped landfill. See the full tally here: (Bedford Patch)
- Join the Bedford Public Library Book Discussion Group on April 10 to discuss Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential" — a memoir that "pulls no punches" recounting his years in the restaurant business. Pick up a copy at the Bedford Public Library Reference Desk or "download a copy from Libby or CloudLibrary." No registration is required. (Bedford Public Library via Facebook)
