- What if you combine a winter wonderland with Venetian flair and ice sculptures? Find out at Carnevale di Venezia festival Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 2-4, at the Bedford Village Inn courtyard and great hall. The Carnevale di Venezia will feature ice sculptures, an ice bar, music and snacks. This winter event is 21-and-older. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased in advance. - A Bedford University of New Hampshire student was seriously injured when he was struck by a car Tuesday while trying to cross Main Street in Durham. Brian Faxon, 21, was struck in the crosswalk at 6:20 p.m. by a 21-year-old UNH student, Conor Lovett. Witnesses helped until emergency personnel arrived. No charges were filed. (NBC10 Boston)
- Can a proposed change in New Hampshire driver's licenses avoid racial profiling? If passed, HB 597 would add race and ethnicity to a New Hampshire license for drivers who opt-in, so data can be collected about police vehicle stops. Committee Vice Chair Ted Gorski (R-Bedford) said that action "related to racial bias could be done on a department-wide or individual officer basis depending on the situation and municipality." (Manchester Ink Link)
- This week, in InDepthNH's weekly Moose's Pals column, meet Sushi, a 1-year-old male, black, short-hair cat from the Animal Rescue League of NH. Sushi "may be shy and seem like he doesn’t care at first, but it’s all an act!" Sushi came to the shelter when his previous owner was about to have a baby. "He would do best in a home with older teens (15+) and adults who understand his shy nature." (InDepthNH.org)
