Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Why is New Hampshire the first in the nation? Find out from University of New Hampshire political science professor and author of two books about the subject, Dante Scala. Professor Scala, a longtime observer of New Hampshire politics, will explain our presidential nominations process and how the Granite State became "first in the nation," tomorrow, 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Bedford Public Library. 2. The next Cinema Sunday is only one week away! Celebrate Valentine's Day by watching a classic 1954 romantic comedy film starring Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden, on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. in the McAllaster Room at the Bedford Public Library. A short presentation will be made before the film, with time for discussion afterward. Find out the film's name and register here: (Bedford (NH) Public Library via Facebook)
  3. We have another new invention to report, and a shoutout to two Bedford inventors, Mathew Hannon and Miroslaw Sokol. The patent was granted to IPG Photonics Corporation in Oxford, Massachusetts for a new “system and method for laser beveling and/or polishing." The other inventors on the team include: Jeffrey P. Sercel or Hollis, New Hampshire; Marco Mendes, of Manchester, New Hampshire; Rouzbeh Sarrafi, of Fremont, New Hampshire; Joshua Schoenly of Nashua, New Hampshire; and Xiangyang Song of Acton, Massachusetts. Congratulations! (Concord Monitor)
