The holiday season is officially here, and there’s no shortage of ways to soak up the magic in and around Concord. To help get you in the spirit, we’ve rounded up a dozen festive ideas you can enjoy throughout the month — each one a fun, joyful way to celebrate the season close to home.

From twinkling light displays and holiday markets to cozy treats, local shopping spots, winter activities and seasonal shows, these 12 picks highlight what makes Concord feel especially merry this time of year. Whether you check off one or all twelve, it’s all about slowing down, supporting local businesses and making memories.

1. See the lights right here in town.

In Concord and Penacook, whole neighborhoods are known for going all out with holiday lights, a tradition made even brighter by the memory of longtime resident Don Moore — “Mr. Lights” — whose displays brought joy to so many. While each year brings new standouts, Airport Road remains a local favorite, and other areas like the governor streets off Fisherville Road, Elm Street in Penacook and Mountain Road are always worth a drive when you're chasing twinkling lights.

2. Drive through a dazzling light show at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

This 2.5-mile drive-thru experience transforms the speedway into a glowing celebration of the season, complete with light tunnels, themed displays and festive scenes you can enjoy from the warmth of your car. Now in its 15th year, the Gift of Lights runs from Thanksgiving through early January and continues to support local charities. Tickets must be reserved online ahead of time, and because the event is weather dependent, it’s smart to check conditions before heading to the South Entrance.

3. Grab a cozy holiday coffee (or hot cocoa) at Brothers' Cortado.

Tucked into 3 Bicentennial Square in downtown Concord, this local gem is owned by two brothers and loved for its warm atmosphere, impressive latte art and seasonal drinks perfect for a chilly day. Whether you’re stopping in while shopping downtown or taking a break from light-spotting, it’s the kind of place that lives up to its motto: enter as friends, leave as family.

4. Pick up Sour Joe’s Pizzeria and plan a cozy movie night in.

Skip figuring out dinner and head to Sour Joe’s Pizzeria, located at 5 Pleasant Street Extension — right between Main Street and Storrs Street in downtown Concord. This spot earns loyal fans and rave reviews for its dough made fresh daily and its generously sized pies — a full pizza comes with five big slices and easily feeds two to three people. Order online Tuesday–Thursday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. or Friday–Saturday from 11 a.m.–7 p.m., pick up a hot pizza, and head home to stay warm, get comfy and queue up your favorite holiday movie — Elf, The Polar Express, or whatever your go-to seasonal favorite may be.

5. Explore the market scene downtown.

Stop by the Downtown Concord Winter Farmers’ Market at 7 Eagle Square every Saturday from November through April, 9 a.m.–noon. The market features fresh produce, dairy, baked goods, treats and crafts from local vendors — it’s a festive, easy way to check off holiday shopping while supporting area makers.

6. Take a winter walk or snowshoe through the woods.

Just a short drive from downtown, Carter Hill Orchard offers peaceful trails and beautiful views that make for a quiet winter walk or snowshoe outing.
