MANCHESTER, NH — A former police officer is facing felony charges after a domestic violence incident in Manchester on Monday.

Around 9:30 a.m., police took a report about an incident earlier that morning after a woman filed a complaint against Schleiden Meneide, 37, at police headquarters. She accused him of strangling her and threatening her with a shotgun, Heather Hamel, a public information officer for the department, said.

“When she regained consciousness,” she said, “he threatened to kill her infant son and made additional threats toward police. The victim was able to safely leave the apartment with her child.”

A BOLO (be-on-the-lookout) officer safety alert was issued across New Hampshire, stating Meneide might be driving a black Kia Stinger and warned other law enforcement officers that he owned “numerous firearms,” including at least one long-barreled rifle, and “made comments about shooting it out” with police.

On Monday night, Waltham police found Meneide at a hotel in their city. Hamel said negotiators were able to communicate with him and he was taken into custody around 9 p.m.

Meneide will be charged in Manchester on second-degree assault-strangulation and two counts of criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, all felonies, as well as domestic violence-simple assault. He also faces charges in Waltham, she said.

Meneide was previously a Hooksett police officer until he was accused in January 2023 of unlawfully acquiring and using information from the State Police On-Line Telecommunications System for “an improper purpose.” In lieu of criminal charges, he resigned and surrendered his police certification in New Hampshire. Meneide was also placed on the Exculpatory Evidence Schedule, also known as the “Laurie List” and the national registry of decertified officers.

Before working in Hooksett, he was a Manchester police officer, first hired in March 2016.

In February, he was arrested in Hooksett on theft charges, accused of wearing a ski mask and stealing items from a Target store.
