Arrest In NH Covered Bridge Hit-And-Run: Police

New Hampshire State Police said an Oregon truck driver clipped the historic Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge to Vermont.

CORNISH, NH — A box truck driver accused of clipping the historic Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge earlier this month turned himself into police Sunday. Tymon Teichroeb, 24, of Albany, Oregon, was charged with conduct after an accident. Teichroeb's truck hit the face of the bridge near the roof, tearing off a few feet of wood, according to New Hampshire State Police Trooper Edward Horton.

The incident happened August 7 at about 3 p.m. Teichroeb drove off after the crash but a witness saw his license plate and relayed it to officers, police said, adding Teichroeb rented the truck. Police recently obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Teichroeb was released on $2,000 bail pending an arraignment September 17 in Claremont District Court.

The bridge, which connects Cornish, New Hampshire, to Windsor, Vermont, was built in 1866.

"This is the second time in less than a month the historic Cornish-Windsor Bridge has been struck by a large truck attempting to cross the bridge that is clearly marked maximum height of 9 (feet) 2 (inches)," Horton said in a statement. "We would like to remind all operators to be careful when trying to enter a covered bridge in a large vehicle or truck."
