Concord Corrections Sergeant Killed In Bicycle Crash
Patrick Bettens, a Concord resident and New Hampshire Department of Corrections employee, was killed in a crash on North Main Street.

CONCORD, NH — The Concord community is mourning a corrections sergeant killed in a bicycle crash on North Main Street this week. Patrick Bettens, 41, of Concord, died Wednesday. He was a father of two boys, Army veteran and New Hampshire Department of Corrections employee.
"Pat was a long time employee and a tremendous asset," the NHDOC said in a statement. "Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends."
The Concord Monitor reported police said Bettens was riding his bicycle Wednesday afternoon near the state prison when he was struck by a van from behind while trying to pass a parked vehicle. No charges have been announced in connection with the crash. Patch has reached out to police for more information.

Bettens was riding his bicycle to train for a triathlon, according to friends who started a fundraising campaign for a college fund for Bettens' two sons, aged 14 and 16.
