Update: Downtown Concord Bank Robbery Suspect Quickly Apprehended By Police: Video
The Merrimack County Savings Bank on North Main Street was robbed on Friday. Cops quickly arrested Mark Hinton on Rumford Street.
CONCORD, NH — Police quickly apprehended a man accused of robbing a bank in Downtown Concord on Friday morning.
Around 11:15 a.m., officers were sent to the Merrimack County Savings Bank branch on North Main Street for a report of a robbery. According to police dispatchers, a man in a mask jumped at the tellers during the robbery. Employees reportedly evacuated to rooms inside the bank and did not know whether the robber was still inside when they made the 911 call.
Later, the officers learned the suspect had fled the bank, running toward North State Street.

The suspect was described as white, about 6 feet tall, with brown hair. He wore a mask and swapped sweatshirts as he left. The suspect also reportedly had a brown paper bag and a manila envelope. The suspect entered and exited the bank from the back lot off School Street, police said.
A customer also chased the robbery suspect. Several witnesses were interviewed and one reportedly had video of the robbery, according to scanner chatter.

Officers headed to the western downtown area, searching for the suspect and clues after hearing he was running on Warren and Short streets.
“He’s running south,” one officer said, after spotting him.
At 11:30 a.m., the suspect was captured by an officer in the area of the intersection of Rumford and School streets.
Police later identified the suspect as Mark J. Hinton, 40, of Concord. He was accused of getting away with $1,832, according to scanner chatter.

Other officers fanned out, searching Warren Street, Rumford Street, North Spring Street, and the Christa McAuliffe Elementary School grounds for the suspect’s brown bag and other items. Around 12:45 p.m., an officer reported finding a brown paper bag with a black hat and a yellow envelope inside at the Thompson Play Lot on North Spring Street.
According to police and a bank employee, no one was harmed during the incident.
Hinton has several priors, including assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and operating without a valid license, according to posts on Patch.
