ROCHESTER, NH — A drug trafficking fugitive was shot and killed during a shootout with New Hampshire police in Rochester Monday, according to officials. Douglas Heath, 38, opened fire on officers during a car chase that started at about 3 p.m., according to New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon MacDonald. Two Rochester police officers and two New Hampshire State Police troopers were involved in the chase.

Rochester police on Monday received "credible information" that Heath was staying in the city and officers patrolling in cruisers spotted his vehicle near Route 125, MacDonald said.

"Heath’s car crashed at the intersection of Oak Street and Route 125," MacDonald said in a statement. "Heath exited his vehicle from the passenger side and an exchange of gun fire occurred. Mr. Heath was struck by gunfire and died at the scene. A gun was found near his body."
