Press release from Granite VNA:

April 23, 2023

Talking about death and dying is a conversation that many people avoid, yet it is an important one to have with loved ones and others who are close to us. Granite VNA, in partnership with Bennett Funeral Home, will host “Death Over Dinner,” an intimate dinner and guided conversation on death and dying, on Wednesday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m., at the Celebration of Life Center at Bennett Funeral Home in Concord.

Kris Green, MS, RN, Granite VNA chief hospice officer, and members of the agency’s end-of-life team will lead small group discussions over a shared meal.

“We will have many important conversations throughout our lives, few as critically important as discussing the end of life,” Green said. “While there is no one right way to talk about death, the ability to discuss our fears, hopes, goals, and how we will be remembered can provide comfort and meaning. A conversation about death enables us to prepare for this challenging time and affirm what is most important to us.”

The “Death Over Dinner” concept is based on the idea that the dinner table is a comfortable place for difficult conversations. The ritual of sharing a meal sets us at ease and encourages connection with our dining companions. The April 26 meal is generously provided by Bennett Funeral Home.

“Death Over Dinner,” taking place at the Bennet Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street in Concord, is free of charge and open to the public, but space is limited so pre-registration is required. For information and to register, call (603) 224-4093, ext. 85815 or visit www.granitevna.org.
