NH Hiker Killed By Falling Ice In White Mountains

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials said a hiker died after falling ice hit her on the Frankenstein Ridge Trail in the White Mountains.

HART'S LOCATION, NH — A hiker was killed Christmas weekend after falling ice hit her as she hiked the White Mountains with family and friends. The hiker was identified as Judith Pinsker, 57, of Wellesley, Massachusetts. She was a doctor at Tufts Medical Center.

Pinsker was hiking the Frankenstein Cliff Trail in the town of Hart's Location Sunday at about noon when the chunk of ice melted off an overhang and struck her, according to Fish and Game Sgt. Alex Lopashanski.

"She was hiking with a group of ten people which included her husband and sons," Lopashanski said in a statement. "Unfortunately, her injury was severe and despite the best efforts of her family, friends and volunteers she did not survive."

The group carried the woman down the trail and they were assisted by ice climbers down to the parking lot, according to Lopashanski. She was transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway, where she was pronounced dead.
