Jail For Owen Labrie After Statutory Rape At St. Paul's School

Former St. Paul's School student Owen Labrie was convicted of sexually assaulting a freshman during a "Senior Salute" ritual.

CONCORD, NH — Owen Labrie, the St. Paul's School prep student convicted of sexual assault during a "Senior Salute" ritual, was ordered to jail Tuesday. Labrie appeared in Merrimack County Superior Court after asking a judge to suspend the remaining 10 months of jail sentence. The judge denied the request, according to The Associated Press.

Labrie, 23, was found guilty of statutory rape and endangering the welfare of a child after a 2014 sexual encounter with a 15-year-old freshman girl when he was an 18-year-old senior at the school. The victim said in court she felt "violated in every way." Labrie was acquitted of felony rape.

Last month, Labrie's attorney filed a legal request asking a judge to suspend his sentence. In response, the victim's attorney asked the judge to keep Labrie's sentence as is.

The judge on Tuesday said his decision to uphold the sentence was based on "justice for the victim" and ordered Labrie to report to jail the day after Christmas, according to the AP.

Labrie moved to Vermont after his conviction and has been working full-time, according to his attorney.
