Multiple People Injured During I-95 Crash In North Hampton: New Hampshire State Police Roundup

CONCORD, NH —New Hampshire State Police arrested two people during its Labor Day Weekend enforcement initiative.

On Monday, state police conducted a “high visibility” enforcement effort between Interstate 98 in Salem and Interstate 89 in Sunapee, from the air and the ground. During the effort, 104 traffic stops were made, including 90 involving drivers traveling at 90 mph or more and nine at 100 mph or faster.

Around 7:30 a.m., a trooper at a traffic stop saw a driver in a vehicle fail to move over him and other troopers, “as well as swerving,” state police said. The trooper got into their cruiser and stopped the driver, later identified as Robert L. Kelley Jr., 57, of Windham. The trooper accused him of being impaired and he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated as well as open container, duty for highway emergencies, and lane control violations. Kelley is due in Salem District Court on Sept. 25 for arraignment.

About 45 minutes later, a sergeant trooper in the air noticed a sports car where the driver was clocked at 115 mph to 131 mph, according to a report.

The sergeant relayed the information to a lieutenant on the ground and the car was stopped. Joseph Cummings, 24, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, was arrested on a reckless driving charge. He is due in Salem District Court on Oct. 16 for arraignment.

Seacoast Crash Sends Several To The Hospital

Several people were taken to the hospital after a crash on Interstate 95 in North Hampton Sunday.

Around 5:15 p.m., troopers were sent to the southbound side of the highway for a report of three vehicles crashing. When they arrived, they found a 2009 Toyota Avalon, being driven by Jaceline Miranda Gomes, 29, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, collided with a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck being driven by Anthony Crudale, 33, of Plaistow, according to a report. Gomes then crossed over the center median and collided with a 2019 Toyota Tacoma being driven by Sandy Herbert, 71, of Newburyport, MA, state police said.

“Gomes,” state police said, “along with an adult passenger, suffered life-threatening injuries. Herbert, as well as a juvenile passenger in Gomes’ vehicle, was seriously injured. Crudale was not hurt.”

Parts of Interstate 95 were closed for around five hours.

Troopers were assisted by Greenland, Hampton, North Hampton, Portsmouth, Rye, and Seabrook fire and rescue teams, Portsmouth police, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Eryn Murphy at eryn.k.murphy@dos.nh.gov.
