New Hampshire Fugitive Of The Week From August Found In Hampton, Corrections Says: Follow-Up

CONCORD, NH — A New Hampshire Fugitive of the Week from late August has been found and is behind bars, according to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections.

Steven Burton Potter, 35, was arrested on Aug. 31 in Hampton after police reportedly saw him at a local restaurant. After seeing him, he was accused of fleeing. But after “a brief pursuit on foot,” Potter was arrested without incident, the department said Wednesday.

Potter is being held in the Rockingham County Jail on multiple bail orders, including a $3,000 cash bail issued by the Coos County Superior Court.

The Coos County Superior Court issued a warrant for his arrest after he was accused of failing to report to probation in June.

The assault by a prisoner charges were first- and second-degree assault against another inmate — punching the man in the face, causing multiple facial fractures, while he was at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility.

According to superior court records, Potter has a criminal history dating back at least 15 years. He was accused of burglary in Wakefield in May 2010. About 10 months later, he pleaded guilty to the charge and received a three-and-a-half to six-year prison sentence, suspended for five years. He was also told to pay $525 in restitution.

Seven years later, Potter was accused of burglary and theft in Merrimack. Ten months later, he pleaded guilty to the burglary charge and received a sentence of two to four years, with 291 days of time served.

Potter, according to posts on Patch and the corrections department, was previously charged with forgery, theft, ID fraud, robbery, mischief, resisting, and other charges.
