New Hampshire State Trooper Honored With Retirement Of Plate
Staff Sergeant Jesse Sherrill, who was killed in the line of duty in Portsmouth in October 2021, was honored in Concord on Tuesday.
CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire State Police held a ceremony recognizing promotions to 80 civilians and sworn State Police officers at the NH Police Standards and Training facility on Tuesday.
Col. Nate Noyes officially retired the call sign and plate number of Staff Sergeant Jesse Sherrill #101 who was tragically killed in the line of duty in October 2021. A plaque outlining this special order which prevents that call sign and plate from ever being used was presented to the Sherrill family. Sherrill was killed last year when a truck hit his cruiser while working a paving detail on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth.
"What Jesse did was lead, and he led with compassion," Capt. Brendan Davey, of the New Hampshire State Police, said. "The reason he was a good leader was because he really spoke to the hearts of his people. Those who were most substantially hurt by his loss were the people that he worked with directly, day in and day out."
