NH Fugitive, Not Seen In 28 Months, Is Continuing To Commit Crimes, Department Of Corrections Says
Follow-up: David Macrae has a 24-year criminal history and active warrants from Hampton and Hampstead cops, as well as in Massachusetts.

CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Department of Corrections is asking for the public’s help in finding a fugitive not seen in more than two years who is accused of continuing to commit crimes.
David John Macrae is 51, white, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighs around 230 pounds. He has hazel eyes, is bald, but has brown hair. Macrae has several tattoos, including a wolf and the Tasmanian Devil on his right forearm, a skull and the name “Crystal” on his right upper arm, the name “Keegan and the grim reaper on his left upper arm, a wizard on his left forearm, and a bulldog on his right shoulder.
Macrae has no known aliases. Warrants against him include ones issued by the New Hampshire Adult Parole Board, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Hampton police, and Hampstead police.

“Macrae absconded from parole in June 2023 while serving a sentence for theft, identity fraud, and fraudulent use of a credit card,” investigators said. “Macrae may be working with paving companies in northern Massachusetts and possibly driving a red Dodge pickup truck.”
Investigators said Macrae has been known to stay in motels in Salisbury, MA, and Hampton, as well as area campgrounds. His criminal history includes assault and battery with a deadly weapon, possession of controlled substances, resisting arrest, and more than 25 theft-related crimes in both states.

“Based on his criminal history,” an alert stated, “Macrae should be considered to have violent tendencies. While on the run, Macrae has allegedly continued committing new offenses, which have resulted in several additional outstanding arrest warrants for thefts and driving offenses.”

Macrae’s criminal history dates back nearly a quarter of a century, according to superior court records.
In June 2001, he was accused of issuing a bad check in Windham, a felony, and pleaded guilty to the charge in January 2003.
More than six years later, he was charged with three counts of theft of misapplication of property and three counts of identity fraud in Plaistow. He pleaded guilty to all the charges in December 2006.
In March 2007, he was charged with identity fraud and theft by deception charges in Plaistow, connected to incidents at the same time as the prior cases. Those charges, though, were nolle prossed in April 2007.
Macrae was accused of theft by deception-$1,501-plus, issuing bad checks, and forgery charges in December 2012 in Salem. He pleaded guilty to all three charges in February 2014. Macrae was accused of felony escape in January 2013, also in Salem, and pleaded guilty to the charge in October 2013.
Five years later, Macrae was charged with credit card fraud-$1,000-plus, ID fraud, and theft by unauthorized taking-$1,501-plus charges out of Seabrook and theft by unauthorized taking-$1,501-plus in Derry. In March 2020, he pleaded guilty to all the charges.
In June 2019, Macrae was charged with theft by unauthorized taking-$1,501-plus as well as theft by deception and issuing bad checks-$1,001 to $1,500 charges in Nashua and two issuing bad checks-$1,001 to $1,500 charges in Salem. He pleaded guilty to the Derry theft charge, the Nashua charges, and one of the Salem charges.
Macrae was also accused of theft by unauthorized taking-$1,501-plus in Barrington in September 2022, but the charge was nolle prossed in January 2023.
