NH State Police said James Deveau was intoxicated when he crashed on Interstate 93, killing a Plymouth woman and injuring a Concord man.

CANTERBURY, NH -- A woman was killed on Interstate 93 in Canterbury Monday after police said a drugged driver lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road and slammed into a tree. The deceased was identified as Nichole Dempsey, 43, of Plymouth. She was the passenger in a Dodge Durango driven by James Deveau, 50, of Epping. Deveau and a second passenger -- Robert Ayer, 37, of Concord, were seriously injured.
The crash happened on the southbound side of the highway at about 4:30 p.m. Dempsey was in the front passenger seat and died at the scene, according to New Hampshire State Police Sergeant Steven Wheeler.
Ayer and Deveau were transported to Concord Hospital. Deveau was arrested at the hospital and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of drugs and driving after suspension.
