A Spectacular Holiday Tradition is Just Around the Corner

Twenty Years Ago Cindy Flanagan's Concord Dance Academy Started a Local Tradition that has Kicked Off the Holiday Season Ever Since

The first weekend in December has finally arrived!

First, however, there was the Christmas Parade, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, reminding Concord residents that the time is coming.

Then, of course, Thanksgiving itself, the day that gives official permission, (once the turkey is eaten) for holiday lights and decorations to be displayed.

A Holiday themed dance show starring many of greater Concords upcoming dancers, this annual event not only provides affordable entertainment for families, every penny raised supports local causes.

Reminiscent of holidays gone by, mixed in with celebrations of today, the music and dancing will take you on a journey through the expressions of the Christmas Spirit. It has been a part of the Concord Holiday Season for two decades.

Here's why it should be a part of yours.

It takes place in Concord's local theater venue, The Concord City Auditorium. "The Audi" is a beautiful downtown venue dedicated to local and regional performances, community and professional theater, and being the recital home to many local dance schools. Run, maintained and preserved by local volunteers, events like The Holiday Spectacular are what keeps it a vital part of Concord's performing arts community.

Along with the musical numbers, the carols and the songs, there is a 'basket raffle'. These themed prizes are donated by local businesses as well as Concord Dance Academy Families. This includes a a 50/50 raffle as well. Money raised here supports local food pantries.

The homemade snacks at intermission, provided by CDA families are delicious, colorful, and plentiful. Donations here go directly to The Audi, which, along with ticket sales are a terrific holiday gift to our local theater.

Finally, the big man himself, Santa is on hand. A non perishable food item or an unwrapped toy will get you a face to face meeting with him and a professional photo! The food donations also support local food pantries and the toys support Toys for Tots and other local Christmas initiatives.

My family has been at every show, every year since the first in 2006. Molly and Gracie performed together for the first ten of them, then Gracie and now Jack have carried on the tradition. They are three of hundreds of local youth who have begun their journey to Christmas with the wonderful show.

A perfect afternoon date with your children or a night out with your parents, people of all ages will enjoy this festive event. It is a terrific way to support the many ways Concord helps it's citizens while having a great time yourself!

The Holiday Spectacular will perform twice on Saturday December 6th, at 1:00 and 6:00 and on Sunday December 7th at 1:00. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the link below, as well as at the door.
