Vehicle Plunges Into Dunbarton Pond After Leaving Roadway Overnight
Police responded to Armands Way for a report of a vehicle partially submerged in the water. The driver appears to have left the scene.
DUNBARTON, NH — A driver who allegedly left the scene after crashing a vehicle into a fire pond on Armands Way overnight is likely to face charges.
Dunbarton police responded to a report of a vehicle in the water on Thursday morning. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Mitsubishi partially submerged in the pond. No occupants were found inside the car at the time of discovery. Evidence at the scene indicates the vehicle left the roadway sometime overnight, striking a wooden guardrail before traveling approximately 60 feet and landing in the water.
Police eventually made contact with the vehicle’s owner at a nearby residence. According to radio traffic reports, the driver had managed to self-extricate from the car following the crash and left the area.

Emergency crews were forced to manage environmental hazards during the recovery effort. Dunbarton Fire was requested to the scene after officers noticed automotive fluids leaking from the submerged car into the water.

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES) was called to respond to the fluid spill. Officials from NH DES were expected to deploy absorbent booms and pads to contain and mitigate the spread of fluids in the pond.
Duval’s Towing and Recovery utilized a large wrecker to hoist the Mitsubishi from the water before loading it onto a flatbed for removal.
The Dunbarton Police Department is currently handling the investigation.
