School was not easy for Max. In the beginning he had to overcome many challenges to even get through some days. Autism, bullying, and understaffed and funded schools made it almost impossible to focus on schoolwork, so we moved out of Massachusetts. Max finally found a place where he had a voice, he belonged, and he thrived both academically and socially. Covid hit during his second year at Epping High School. I watched him slowly revert socially, like everyone did, but for kids like Max with social and autistic issues, it hit a little harder. Still, he kept up with his schoolwork and started his junior year it wasn't long before his talent as a writer began to show more and more, and he was being asked to help other kids at school with math and projects his teachers all of them say how having Max in their classroom is a joy he is so helpful, and they love reading his work and that he is really a great kid. I know that he still struggles socially at times, as his mom you can imagine that it can be heartbreaking to feel like, you don't understand how other kids don't see just how exceptional he is or that maybe he just doesn't have confidence about himself to be more social. He isn't going to the prom. I was a little sad about that. But he was honored at the town parade for winning second place for an essay he wrote thanking the veterans, so I'm sure he will remember that forever, so I couldn't be happier and prouder of him. Well, he is now graduating with all As from Epping High School, and I just want the world to know he has decided to go on to college to become an English teacher and hopes to find a kid just like him and make a difference, like all of the amazing teachers did at supporting Max at Epping High. Thank you and Go Max!!!!!!
