Another North Hampton Building Receives Big Honor

A historic town building has received a special distinction for its significance.

History continues to make history in North Hampton this month, as the town recently learned that the iconic stone Town Clerk's Office building has been added to the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places.

Selectmen gave their consent last December to allow the North Hampton Heritage Commission to pursue the distinction for the building, which was built in 1907 as the town's original library building and also currently houses the tax collector's office.

The building's addition to the state register comes not long after North Hampton Town Hall — also listed on the state register — was honored with multiple awards, in addition to a listing on the National Register of Historic Places. North Hampton also recently celebrated a history-rich Town Hall Day in celebration of the community's heritage.

Listing the clerk's office won't impact the proposed municipal complex plan, as the clerk's office building won't be moved or razed to make way for the Atlantic Avenue governmental campus.
