Controversial Hampton Beach Structure Goes for Approval

A 100-foot-tall project will be publicly vetted after slight changes were made to the eight-story proposal.

The developers behind a proposed 100-foot-tall contel for Hampton Beach's A Block will seek the Hampton Zoning Board's approval Thursday night during a hearing that comes not long after the project received a sizable amount of opposition during the project's first appearance before the board.

Green and Co. Building and Development Corporation is trying to bring an eight-story rental property to 275 Ocean Blvd.

Board member Tom McGuirk has said the revised application isn't much different from the proposal that was withdrawn in August after developers found the response to be less-than-favorable during a planning board public hearing.

The most notable changes are some alterations to the building's facade. Windows "and some other features" have been added to the northern and southern faces of the structure "to break up" the "big wall[s]" originally proposed for those spaces, according to McGuirk.

There are no changes to the overall height of the project, the proposed setbacks or the number of units within the structure — all issues that have been discussed by various officials so far.

Some officials are in favor of the project, though, stating it could be "conducive" to the kind of change that Hampton Beach wants.

The hearing on the revised proposal is expected to be the first item of business during Thursday's 7 p.m. meeting.
