Dave Lang Puts Name in for Hampton Selectman

Lang, a retired firefighter and president of the NH professional firefighters' union, expresses interest in board service.

Dave Lang has submitted his name to the Hampton Board of Selectmen for consideration of an appointment to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Ben Moore.

Selectmen have set a deadline of 5 p.m. today, for any residents with interest in the seat, to express their interest. Others so far interested, or mentioned as possible successors to Moore, include Rick Griffin and Brian Warburton.

Dick Nichols, chairman of the board, said Selectmen would make the appointment at their Monday meeting. It will be in public, he said.

Please place my name into consideration for the opening that was created on the Hampton Select Board due to a recent resignation. I do so eagerly ready to get to work in providing the required leadership, experience and vision to full fill the legal requirements of a selectman.

I have lived in this community my entire life; along with my wife Karen we raised two daughters. The four of us are all products of the Hampton School system.  For the majority of my adult life have I served as a firefighter protecting the citizens and visitors of this town, we all call home.

As a firefighter we deal with facts, during every emergency situation we face. Our training requires us to analyze and assess the facts in front of us, prioritize the tasks before us put forward a plan under stressful conditions that requires at the start that we leave it better than we found it.  As a firefighter we do not ask if someone is rich or poor, old or young, what neighborhood they come from or if they are a business owner or visitor. Our mission always requires that people and the community come before one’s self.

I will bring this same set of values, experience and process to the Select Board table. Decisions made by the select board require this distinct board of individuals to rely on their own walk of life and vision to build consensus that is in the best interest of the entire town.

As a member of the Select Board I will always ask is it good for Hampton, all of Hampton?

My vision for this town is the same as the people that live here. I want Hampton to be a town working families are proud to call home, a place that is safe to raise a family, a place where these families get the services that support their successful and busy lives. A place where you want to retire to that is friendly and supportive to our seniors. A place where thoughtful decisions are made that ensures our infrastructure is maintained, the services our citizens want are provided effectively and efficiently at a cost that is predictable and affordable.  A Town that supports and welcomes successful business, recognizing that business creates the high quality jobs that support these working families.

So why do I want to serve the remainder of this vacant term as a selectman, I want to give back to my community using my talents, skills and ability at a time when my Town needs it. I want to participate in the discussion and decisions that will be made influencing positive change in the most of transparent ways.

So I will close as I began. I am offering my time, energy and experience to serve in this capacity, ready to work.

David Lang, 66 Park Avenue Hampton
