Downtown Reopened After Truck Gets Tangled in Power Lines
Part of Route 1 was closed for roughly three hours Monday after a utility pole was downed in an accident.

UPDATE (9 a.m.): The Hampton Union has reported that Route 1 fully reopened shortly after 7 a.m. Monday following a three-hour road closure necessitated by a truck hitting low-hanging wires near the intersection with Exeter Road around 4:18 a.m.
ORIGINAL STORY (4:53 a.m.): Downtown Hampton near the intersection of Lafayette Road (Route 1) and High Street (Route 27) was reportedly shut down early Monday morning due to a downed utility pole.

A Hampton-North Hampton Patch reader reported both sides of Route 1 were closed down near the intersection at about 4:50 a.m. Monday. Patch was able to confirm the closure using emergency radio communications.
The reader reported that it looked at least one truck "pulled down a telephone pole by its wires" near the Marelli Square gazebo, and that it "a tractor trailer, a front end loader, and a gas tanker truck" appeared to be "involved and tangled in the wires."

Unitil wasn't reporting any power outages for Hampton as of 4:59 a.m. Monday. Members of the Hampton Police Department are reportedly on scene. A different Patch reader reported Unitil arrived on scene at about 5:30 a.m.
Traffic was being rerouted using Swain Court Monday morning, according to emergency radio communications.
The reported downed utility pole comes not long after the end of a snowstorm that dumped wet, heavy snow on parts of New Hampshire and caused a variety of power outages and cancelations throughout the state.
