3. What Else Is Happening Today? It's Walk to School Day for Hampton's elementary schools.

Also, there's a delayed opening at WHS, Lane Memorial Library is playing a free showing of "Life of Pi" at 1 p.m., local students begin their quest to beat out teams from across the globe, the Hampton Parks and Recreation Department has a special show tonight, and there's an SAU 21 Joint School Board meeting at 6 p.m.

4. This Day in History: On this day in 1843, a massive wagon train, made up of 1,000 settlers and 1,000 head of cattle, set off down the Oregon Trail from Independence, Mo.

Known as the "Great Emigration," the expedition came two years after the first modest party of settlers made the long, overland journey to Oregon.
