Five Things: Latin King Due for Sentencing

Good morning, Hampton and North Hampton. Here are five things you need to know for Friday, March 22:

 

1. Today’s Featured Fun: The Friends of Winnacunnet Foundation Comedy Night starts at 8 p.m. at Ashworth By The Sea. The event raises money to help support education innovation at Winnacunnet High School. The nonprofit foundation has raised over $70,000 and awarded over $25,000 in grants to date, according to Vice President Linda Libbey.

2. Big Court Case Resumes: A Hampton man accused of running a drug ring while belonging to a local chapter of the Latin Kings gang will be sentenced in U.S. District Court.

Aaron Desjardins, the man accused of murdering ex-wife and local resident Amy Warf, was also due in court for a probable cause hearing, although he waived it Thursday. The case will now go to a grand jury for possible indictment.

 3. What Else Is Happening Today? The annual Crimeline for the Hamptons fun-filled 10-day fundraiser at the Poker Room kicks off tonight, and you could  head on over to Lane Memorial Library with your child at 10 a.m. for a free Friday morning movie.

4. This Day in History: On this day in 1765, in an effort to raise funds to pay off debts and defend the vast new American territories won from the French in the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), the British government passed the Stamp Act.

The legislation levied a direct tax on all materials printed for commercial and legal use in the colonies, from newspapers and pamphlets to playing cards and dice.
