3. This Day in History: On this day in 1996, Colorado Avalanche goaltender Patrick Roy earned his 300th win in the National Hockey League. Roy retired from hockey in 2003 with a then-record 551 career regular season wins.

Patrick Roy, a native of Quebec City, Canada, was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1984. The four-time Stanley Cup and record three-time Conn Smythe (playoff MVP trophy) winner was the youngest starting NHL goalie ever to win the coveted Cup at age 20 in his rookie season in Montreal. He developed a reputation for playing well under pressure and fans dubbed him "Saint Patrick." Roy was also known to be superstitious and never skated over blue or red lines, among other things.
