'Freedom' Rings Out Over Hampton Wednesday
The town will celebrate a major anniversary of the civil rights movement during a public event.

Wednesday is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, and Hampton First Congregational Church is marking the occasion with a "Let Freedom Ring" bell ringing ceremony.
The church's bell will be rung for 3 minutes starting at 3 p.m. during event, to which anyone is welcome to attend. The bell ringing is inspired by lines in King's speech, and church members said in a release that "'from the prodigious hilltops of NH' we will 'Let Freedom Ring'" through the gesture.
There are many other things happening throughout the state and nation to mark the big anniversary, including an open public march at the University of New Hampshire. The march will start at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Union Building and end on the Great Hall Lawn, where King's speech will be read aloud.
