Public Works Director to Stand Trial for DWI

Keith Noyes contends he was on a prescription medication when police charged him in late 2012.

Hampton's Public Works Department director will go to trial in Brentwood District Court on Monday, June 10, for one count of driving while intoxicated.

Keith Noyes, 57, of Exeter, has pleaded not guilty since he was arrested for DWI at 11:32 p.m. on Nov. 23 after a motor vehicle stop on Portsmouth Avenue in Exeter.

The trial had been set for May 20, although a continuance was granted after Noyes, who was in court for a pre-trial conference on Feb. 11, requested a 2 1/2-hour trial, according to court staff. His June 10 trial on the Class B misdemeanor will begin at 1:30 p.m., according to court staff.

Noyes and his attorney, Richard Samdperil, have declined to speak about aspects of the case, although Samdperil has said the charge isn't alcohol-related and Noyes said it's due to an undisclosed "prescription medication" he was on during the traffic violation.

If convicted on the Class B misdemeanors, Noyes won't face jail time, although he could be assessed various monetary penalties and could lose his license, according to state statutes.
