You don’t need to go far to learn how to achieve a healthy balance with the right food, exercise, and self-care techniques. The Victoria Inn Bed and Breakfast, 430 High St., Hampton, will host three days of health, wellness, and natural healing with 12 of the top healing practitioners from the region, Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3.
“It’s about nurturing you mind, body, and spirit,” says Marilynn Carter, a certified holistic health practitioner, teacher, and author of the cookbook “No Fret Cooking.” “For those who don’t know about alternative therapies, the weekend is an opportunity to try short healing sessions and learn about self-care and the things we eat.”

Carter, a Dover resident, is one of the dozen area alternative healing practitioners who will lead short healing sessions at the event. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about Reiki, sound therapy, dream interpretation, sacred geometry, reflexology, feng shui, or many other topics, the Victoria Inn’s Alternative Health and Wellness Fair is the perfect opportunity, says Tracey Dewhurst, owner of the Victoria Inn.
“I think the diversity of the practitioners will make it extremely interesting and I hope people will stop by and get a chance to learn about some different approaches to healthy living and eating," she says.

Dewhurst and Carter worked together to bring the event to the inn. “When I first met Marilynn, we were just talking about a book signing with some sample appetizers from her book, ‘No Fret Cooking.’ But when I heard about her Reiki classes our idea blossomed into a full weekend of events related to health and wellness," Dewhurst says.
The weekend begins with a special meet-and-greet and book signing with Carter and her husband, Steve. Guests of the inn can sample an array of healthy, fresh appetizers made using recipes from “No Fret Cooking” while Steve Carter performs live jazz he composed especially for the cookbook.
“Eating is another path to health,” Marilynn Carter says. “Fresh, local food is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, along with exercise and self-care.”
On Saturday, the inn will be open to the public and admission to the health and wellness fair is free. Guests will be able to meet practitioners, learn about alternative healing techniques, and try out short healing sessions with the practitioners for a small fee. A food and juice bar will be available so that guests can refresh themselves with healthy snacks and drinks, some of which will be from “No Fret Cooking.”
“We’re supporting local food, healthy living, self-care, and local healing practitioners,” Carter says. “Having all of these elements under one roof is incredible.”
The fair concludes on Sunday with a private yoga session and breakfast for weekend inn guests only. The Victoria Inn is offering special weekend packages for the health and wellness fair. Starting at $388, the packages include a two-night stay, the Friday night meet-and-greet with Marilynn and Steve Carter, a signed copy of “No Fret Cooking,” breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and a 45-minute yoga session on Sunday morning.
“The Alternative Health and Wellness Fair and Weekend is another example of the fine events the Victoria Inn hosts,” Dewhurst says. “We have traditionally been a venue for weddings and special events, but we are expanding our offerings to our guests and the Seacoast community. During the summer, we hosted a Vintage Fair, and this winter, we’ll hold a series of Children’s Teas with Mrs. Claus and other characters.”
Located a half mile from the Atlantic Ocean, The Victoria Inn offers beautifully appointed guest rooms and personal service in a quiet wooded setting. The Victoria Inn is perfect for family gatherings, romantic getaways, private events, and seaside vacations.
“No Fret Cooking” is a cookbook that blends simple, healthy, and yummy recipes with music perfect to cook and dine by. A collaboration between Marilynn Carter, a holistic health practitioner and teacher, and her husband, Steve Carter, a jazz guitarist who taught for 25 years at Berklee College of Music, “No Fret Cooking” pairs food and music and leads readers on a culinary adventure. “No Fret Cooking” received an honorable mention at the 2012 New England Book Festival.
