Man Shoots Himself After Running From New Hampshire State Police

GREENLAND, NH — A New Hampshire state trooper was on routine patrol when he came up with a vehicle that appeared to have crashed in the median of Interstate 95 in Greenland on Thursday.

Trooper Christopher Houston observed a man running from the vehicle at about 2:20 a.m. Additional troopers and local police responded to the area to assist and a K-9 track was deployed to attempt to locate the individual.

At about 2:43 a.m., Trooper Lauren Hervieux located this individual on Post Road at Witham Farm Road in the town of Greenland. Upon contact, the male individual produced a handgun, discharged two rounds into the air, and then discharged the third round, causing a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Post Road in the area of this incident was shut down and a perimeter was established. Numerous attempts to make contact with this individual were made. Troopers and local police officers then utilized the Seacoast Emergency Response Team’s armored vehicle (Bearcat) and were able to safely approach this individual. It was determined that he was deceased from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Post Road was closed in the area of this incident until approximately 5:30 a.m. as the investigation continued.

State Police was assisted by Greenland Police Department, Rye Police Department, Newington Police Department, North Hampton Police Department, Stratham Police Department, Greenland Fire Department, Rye Fire and Rescue, and the Seacoast Emergency Response Team (SERT).

All aspects of this incident remain under investigation by the Greenland Police Department. The identity of the suspect will remain withheld, while efforts are made to notify the family.
