National Law Enforcement Memorial Honors Maloney's Sacrifice
Local officers will be present when Michael Maloney's name is read at the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers and their families will converge on Washington, D.C., this week for National Police Week 2013, which is May 12 through May 18. Among the events will be the Annual Candlelight Vigil, now in its 25th year, on Monday, May 13.
National Police Week brings together between 25,000 to 40,000 attendees from departments throughout the United States and internationally, according to the Police Week website.

"Police Week is super important to recognize the importance and sacrafice of our law enforcement officers, especially our fallen heroes," said Steve Groeninger, senior director of communications for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney is one of the 120 police officers who died in the line of duty in 2012. His name has been added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial and there will be a wreath-laying ceremony held Wednesday morning at the west end of the U.S. Capitol Building.

Greenland Police Chief Tara Laurent said on Friday that she and several of her police officers were scheduled to fly to Washington, D.C., to attend National Police Week events. Some of the money for the trip was raised during a St. Patrick's Day benefit in Maloney's honor, which was held in North Hampton in March and .
Laurent said they plan on attending the candlelight vigil that will be held in front of the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building on Monday at 8 p.m., as well as attend the wreath laying ceremony on Wednesday morning where the names of Maloney and 119 other police officers who died in the line of duty in 2012 will be read.
This year U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will deliver the keynote address at the 25th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Monday evening of May 13.
There, the names of the officers killed while on duty, will be read.
“At our annual Candlelight Vigil, we honor all of the brave men and women of law enforcement who put the safety and protection of others ahead of their own—and who made the ultimate sacrifice in the process,” Craig W. Floyd, chairman and CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, said in a press release.
