North Hampton School Renovations Pass at Town Meeting

Almost all of the other warrant articles passed Tuesday, some by sizable margins.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the $1.2 million North Hampton School renovation and security upgrade project during annual town meeting balloting on Tuesday.

The article, which required a 3/5ths supermajority, passed 719-338. North Hampton Selectman Phil Wilson said he wasn't "surprised" the article passed, as he said the North Hampton School Board, teachers, administrators and parents "did a good job defining and defending" the proposal.

Many officials said the school renovations article was a large contributor as to why above-average total — turned out Tuesday.

"To have 1,000 voters is a step in the right direction," said Town Administrator Paul Apple. "That's exciting."

All other North Hampton school articles also passed, as did the Gov. Dale Farm conservation easement article, both the town and school operating budgets, and the large assembly ordinance amendment.

The article calling for an expansion of the three-member North Hampton Select Board failed, while the resulted in a tie. It was unclear Tuesday night when the recount will be scheduled.
