Police: Busy Holiday Weekend Despite 'Considerable' Traffic 'Drop-Off'
Police made 17 total arrests and responded to hundreds of calls for service even though there was less Labor Day traffic due to poor weather.

Cold, rainy days may have limited the number of Hampton Beach visitors over Labor Day weekend, although that didn't mean local law enforcement wasn't busy due to a hundreds of crimes, calls and violations.
The Hampton Police Department responded to a total of 311 calls for service, made 17 total arrests, stopped 94 vehicles, and responded to 10 vehicle accidents over the extended holiday weekend.
The numbers are in line with other busy weekends in the area, although Hampton Deputy Police Chief Rich Sawyer said there was a "considerable" and "significant drop-off" in overall vehicle traffic, "possibly due to the poor weather."
Sawyer did say, though, that beach businesses and entertainment venues were still "fairly busy."
"Nothing really outrageous to report," said Sawyer.
Sawyer said the majority of the arrests were "primarily" related to either alcohol possession in and around Hampton Beach or disorderly conduct incidents.
Seabrook and New Hampshire State police also hand their hands full over Labor Day weekend, albeit due to a sobriety checkpoint along Ocean Boulevard that netted over a dozen arrests. One man even attempted to flee the checkpoint on foot.
Police are currently getting ready for the massive influx in tourists, calls and activity around Hampton Beach for Seafood Festival, which is this upcoming weekend.
