Emergency radio communications indicated at about 1:48 p.m. that the pole "snapped right off" and that traffic would have to be rerouted through the area. Unitil told Hampton-North Hampton Patch that high winds took out a nearby tree, which in turn fell on the power lines and took out the pole.
Unitil crews are currently on the scene.

The closure comes not long after high winds caused a different power outage that knocked out power earlier Thursday afternoon to roughly 1,700 Unitil customers in Hampton. Unitil reported that the outage, which is affecting Unitil's headquarters in Hampton, is due to a downed tree on Timber Swamp Road.
More to come.
