Seacoast Media Group Sold

GateHouse Media will now manage the group, which publishes the Hampton Union and several other local newspapers.

Seacoast Media Group, which publishes several local newspapers, has been sold.

An affiliate of Fortress Investment Group purchased SMG for an undisclosed sum, according to News Corp, SMG's parent company.

SMG has been part of the Dow Jones Local Media Group, which has operated 33 publications, including eight daily newspapers across the country. News Corp sold the entire group to FIG.

The media group will now be managed by GateHouse Media, News Corp said.

"These newspapers share a strong tradition of service in their communities and a highly talented staff,” said Robert Thomson, chief executive of News Corp, in a statement. "We are confident that the papers will prosper under the new owners, but they were not strategically consistent with the emerging portfolio of the new News."

SMG publishes the Portsmouth Herald, the Exeter News-Letter, and the Hampton Union.
