Family, friends, and members of the community on Friday raised thousands of dollars for a fund in honor of slain Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney.

Maloney was killed in a drug raid last year.

The second annual "Chief Michael Maloney Memorial Golf Classic" was held at the Portsmouth Country Club Friday.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, was on hand.

"This state will never forget his sacrifice," Ayotte said.

Maloney was killed in April 2012, days before he was set to retire. He was assisting a task force that raided the home of a drug dealer. Four other officers were shot. They all recovered.

John Pickering, who chairs Maloney's memorial fund, said money raised Friday will go to things like scholarships for local students.

"The more we raise, the more we can give back to the community," Pickering said.
