Smuttynose Rated One of the Top Brewers in the World

The Portsmouth-based brewery is getting ready to move into its new home in Hampton.

Smuttynose Brewing Company was excited to learn that beer fans from around the world have voted them not only the best brewery in New Hampshire, but one of the Top 100 (out of more than 16,000) Brewers in the World, according to the 2013 awards lists from RateBeer.com. The annual honors, compiled from millions of user reviews, are some of the most significant awards not awarded by beer judges. Smuttynose has been on the list since 2003.

“It’s really humbling to know that people from all over the world are drinking and enjoying our beers; we thank them all,” said Peter Egelston, Smuttynose’s founder and President, “when I’m working at my desk in the brewery, it can sometimes be easy to lose the scale of how widely our beers travel with ‘brewed in New Hampshire’ on them.” Egelston said that being named in the top 0.6% of the world’s breweries was a great boost to his team’s spirit, as they are on the verge of beginning the transition to their new brewery at Towle Farm in Hampton.

The new brewery will bring an even higher level of quality and flavor to the award–winning beers, according to Egelston, “so we look forward to being on the list next year.”
