Flip-Flops Still Banned from Hampton Schools

The allegedly-insulting teacher dress code was recently upheld, meaning it's still against the rules to wear flip-flops.

The Hampton School Board voted this week 3-2 not to eliminate the dress code policy from the staff policy manual despite calls from teachers that the jeans- and flip-flop-banning rule is condescending.

The Hampton Union has reported the board voted to uphold the policy — which is recommended by the state but not required — in order to give administrators the power to enforce attire issues, should any arise. Board members Rusty Bridle and Maureen O'Leary voted against the policy, stating SAU 90 hasn't had an issue and staff can enforce themselves, while Chairwoman Peppa Ring and members Ginny Bridle and Art Gopalan voted to keep the policy.
