Town, State Reach Agreement on Beach Operations Plan
After months of talks and disagreements, the town and state have come to an understanding.
The Hampton Board of Selectmen and the state of New Hampshire's Department of Resources and Economic Development recently reached an agreement on the services and duties for which each entity will be responsible in and around Hampton Beach.
Included in the joint operations plan is a provision about video surveillance, as well as a provision that states selectmen can change at will the amount they charge the state for services like trash disposal. Selectmen did just that earlier this week, nearly doubling the amount the state must pay while dropping off refuse at the Hampton Transfer Station.
Not included in the joint operations plan are any provisions outlining sidewalk maintenance — for which the state isn't responsible — or snow removal. Both have been issues in Hampton in the past.
A copy of the joint operations plan is available above. The plan will remain in effect until April 30, 2014.
