PORTSMOUTH, NH — A man from Massachusetts was arrested on multiple charges after a two-state high-speed chase which ended with the suspect crashing into a state police cruiser on Monday night, according to officials.

Around 11:45 p.m., a state trooper saw a driver in a car on the northbound side of Interstate 95 having lane control issues and driving at more than 100 mph. The trooper attempted to stop the car but accused the driver of failing to stop and fleeing the scene to elude police, Tyler Dumont, a public information officer for New Hampshire State Police, said.

“The driver of the vehicle, a gray 2012 Toyota Camry reported stolen out of Wilmington, Massachusetts, continued northbound erratically at high speeds and crossed into Kittery, Maine,” he said. “New Hampshire troopers continued to pursue the Toyota while Maine authorities responded to the area.”

The driver, later identified as Steven Hebert, 42, of Worcester, MA, was accused of leaving the highway via Exit 3. Kittery, ME, police took over the chase, with New Hampshire troopers playing a support role, he said. The car crossed into York, ME, and took a dead-end street, Dumont said. Hebert was then accused of turning the car around and crashing into a New Hampshire State Police cruiser, which ended the chase. Hebert was then arrested.

“There were no injuries as a result of the crash,” Dumont said.
