3-Hour Standoff With Police And Sheriffs Ends With Arrest Of Man

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police, SWAT, and the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Department took a man into custody after a three-hour standoff on Prospect Street on Wednesday.

Police responded to 242 Prospect St., a multi-unit building, at about 10:15 a.m. to assist the sheriffs trying to serve an eviction notice.

The man inside, identified as Brian Erunski, 41, refused to come out. It was also determined he was a convicted felon had several active warrants. Based on evidence inside the apartment, there was a concern for officer safety, related to a firearm possibly being inside.

Members of the SWAT team secured a perimeter around the house, located a few houses east of Russell Street. Police negotiated and asked for a man to come out of the building several times, and the man appeared to not respond to the request.

At about 1 p.m., SWAT deployed some sort of explosive device that caused a loud noise that could be heard several blocks away. Police made entry, located Erunski hiding under a mattress, and took him into custody.

After he was taken into custody, members of the dherriff’s department were seen bringing paperwork into the building that is used as part of an eviction process.

An AMR Ambulance was at the scene when the incident started and stood by while police worked on the scene. No one appeared to be injured and the ambulance left without transporting anyone.

MPD Spokesperson Heather Hamel said Erunski had active warrants on stalking, criminal threatening, and breach of bail charges. He also faces a charge of resisting arrest in Wednesday's incident.
