Crash Closes I-93 In Londonderry, MedFlight Lands To Transport Victim
Crews worked for over an hour to extricate a man from the vehicle just north of Exit 5. The occupant has life-threatening injuries.
LONDONDERRY, NH — Londonderry Fire, Derry Fire, New Hampshire State Police responded to a single-vehicle accident on Tuesday on Interstate 93 south just north of Exit 5.
A passenger car veered from the high-speed lane into the wood line on the right side of the highway and crashed into several trees at about 6:30 p.m. The vehicle was wedged between multiple trees, with one occupant heavily entrapped. The Interstate was shut down so Boston MedFlight could land on the highway just south of the crash. Additional heavy rescue equipment was requested from Manchester, which dispatched Rescue 1 and a battalion chief.
More than a dozen firefighters used multiple hand tools and hydraulic tools to work on extricating the man. It took crews over an hour to extricate the man. The victim was placed in a waiting ambulance so that paramedics could stabilize him before he was loaded into the helicopter.

After approximately 30 minutes, he was transferred to the Boston MedFlight helicopter and flown to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Two lanes of I-93 were reopened at about 8:15 p.m., and traffic that had been backed up several miles began to be able to travel South.

State police remained at the scene investigating the accident and are expected to be there for several hours. The right two lanes of the highway are currently shut down in the vicinity of Mile Marker 16.
